100 Black Men Name Shirlington Small Business of the Year

Shirlington Limousine and Transportation, Inc (SL&T), is proud to announce its selection as the 2006 Small Business of the Year by the 100 Black Men of Greater Washington DC. The award was presented at the 100 Black Men’s annual Legacy Award dinner on June 24 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Washington DC.

SL&T has a long service record of working with community-based organizations in the local area. CEO Chris Baker believes that being a responsible corporate citizen means giving back to the community you serve.

“I really believe in the mission of the 100 Black Men of Washington and I am honored to receive this award on behalf of SL &T,” said Chris Baker. “As a minority business owner, it’s important that we get involved in the lives of young African American males. Mentoring, which is a cornerstone of the100 Black Men, is one of the key elements for my success today.”

Marvin Dickerson, president of the 100 Black Men of Washington, DC, said: “Shirlington has been a great partner for us over the years. This award represents their commitment to helping our organization achieve its goals of creating leaders in our community.”

SL &T has been providing coach and mini-buses and array of other transportation services at little or no cost to the 100 Black Men of Washington DC, as needed, for nearly five years.

DHS Rates Shirlington Service as Outstanding

SL &T has been recognized with an award from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for its Small Business Achievement in the 2003-2004 fiscal year. The award, which acknowledges excellent and meritorious service, was presented in April 2005.

“It’s a great honor to receive such a prestigious award,” said Chris Baker president and CEO of SL&T. “What makes this award truly special is that it comes from a valued client. It shows that the effort that we put into providing superior service was recognized and appreciated.”

SL&T this year will complete its second year of a five-year contract with DHS as a supplier of shuttlebus and executive sedan service for agency employees.

Mercedes Maybach Exclusive to Shirlington Limousine and Transportation

Shirlington Limousine and Transportation announced that it will add the very exclusive Mercedes-Benz Maybach to its fleet of luxury automobiles. The Maybach is Mercedes-Benzs premier limousine. The Maybach is named after designer Wilhelm Maybach (1846-1929), a long-time companion of Gottlieb Daimler and one of Germany's most famous automobile designers. Maybach was accepted into the Hall of Fame for his performance and achievements.

Even at first glance, the Mercedes-Benz Maybach represents a grand-scale departure from the familiar in order to provide an ambience of exclusive comfort. Its clear-cut design owes much to the careful balance of tradition and avant-garde while characterizing it clearly as a member of the Mercedes family. Two-tone paintwork, high-grade metals and a host of high-tech features set the scene. The designers have come up with soft, elongated lines which are simple yet at the same time elegant, giving the car a flowing silhouette designed to convey a majestic impression as it passes by.
"We are happy to add this automobile to our fleet," said Chris Baker, president and CEO of Shirlington Limousine and Transportation. It gives us a vehicle privately owned by very few. This will give our clients a chance to experience true automobile sophistication. We will begin leasing the Maybach in the early spring of 2006.
The Mercedes-Benz Maybach is good for work and play. The Maybach offers first-rate audio and video entertainment systems incorporating a radio and television tuner, compact disc changer, mini-disc player and state-of-the-art video equipment. A 20-inch LCD television screen, not even five centimeters deep, is fitted below the glass roof and can be moved out of the way when not required. It allows rear-seat occupants either to enjoy video and television programs without any interference or to surf the Internet en route to their destination.
U.S. Department of Homeland Security Selects Shirlington for Transportation
Shirlington Limousine and Transportation was awarded a transportation contract from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for more than $20 million. Shirlington, already one of the region's featured minority businesses, will increase its market share in Washington, D.C. The contract is expected to grow the company by more than 30 percent.

Shirlington Limousine and Transportation has a proven track record of securing and providing services for other governmental agencies. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will be added to an already impressive list of private and government clients that are taking advantage of Shirlington's exceptional service.

"We are pleased to be awarded this contract," said Chris Baker, president and CEO of Shirlington Limousine and Transportation. Minority owned and operated companies given these types of opportunities are under pressure to succeed so other companies can also get chance. We will strive to achieve our mission of superior customer service, which has been crucial to our growth.
